Tormod Flaten writes about the piece: ‘I believe I Himmelen is one of the most beautiful Norwegian hymn tunes. This arrangement is different to other versions, both melodically and harmonically. I have tried to create atmospheres by combining folk music with sacred elements and hopefully the audience will notice these two different approaches. I was very happy when Tormod asked me to do an arrangement for euphonium, and I think his version works really well. It is very distinct and has a singing, expressive character unbound by technical limitations.’
